Sharing EFT and tapping as widely as possible is a passion of mine.
In June 2020 I was excited to have the opportunity to run a workshop for Jiva Health yoga studio. Nine participants joined me to learn about tapping and to tap together about feelings that have arisen during lockdown.
EMOTIONAL FIRST AID
We started by learning an ‘emotional first aid’ technique, a very effective and easy no-words tapping method which is great for getting familiar with the tapping points without worrying about what words to use. Although simple, it is effective and safe to use in instances of severe trauma, as demonstrated by the work of Gunilla Hamne and Ulf Sandstrom who developed this technique (TTT or Trauma Tapping Technique) and use it with people suffering extreme trauma across the world (www.peacefulheart.se).
CONSTRICTED BREATHING TECHNIQUE
I then taught Gary Craig’s Constricted Breathing Technique which is a good introduction to EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), using words with tapping. This is a great method for addressing unconscious emotional and physical tensions held in the chest area and has also been used by athletes to improve their performance. A sufferer of COVID-related pneumonia also used it to great effect in his hospital ward (see his video for more details).
We then moved into a free-flowing community tapping session where those who wanted to spoke about their feelings during lockdown (grief and loss, anxiety, anger and frustration) and I tapped with a few people individually while everyone ‘borrowed benefits’ by tapping along with them. I also led the group in some EFT using general wording based on the experiences and feelings they reported, finishing with some positive reframing as suggested by the group members to end the session on an uplifting note.
This was a powerful and magical shared experience. Like singing together or praying together, the benefits of tapping are magnified when a group of people comes together to tap and talk.
I was very keen to share tapping techniques that everyone could use by themselves going forwards, and everyone reported that they felt they had thoroughly learned the basics and would be comfortable doing it alone in the future!
