At this time of year a lot of us are drawn to make ‘New Year Resolutions’ or form intentions, set new goals, assess our lives and attempt to make changes in some way. EFT tapping can help us with all of these processes and really supercharge our effectiveness, whether our goals and intentions are about physical changes such as forming health-promoting habits, or more internal changes such as talking to ourselves in a kinder way.
Manifesting and the Law of Attraction
Manifesting is the process of bringing something into your physical reality through your thoughts and beliefs. This could be done through visualization, repeating affirmations, making a vision board, or in some way consciously focusing on something that you want.
The idea is that we attract what we put our attention and energy into. This is what the famous Law of Attraction is all about – we attract what we focus on.
However, it’s not that simple is it? We have all experienced times when we were surprised by what happened, when we expected to not be offered a job after an interview but we did get it, or we were confident of getting the job and then didn’t get it. If you have tried a manifesting process and it didn’t work, it can even feel like your fault if you didn’t get what you want, as if maybe you didn’t focus hard enough or visualise it properly.
Very often, the key can be our subconscious thoughts, beliefs, and desires, which we are not even aware of. We are actually putting those negative thoughts out there subconsciously and attracting those things instead of what we want. For example, if I go into a job interview feeling that I’m not good enough for that job, worrying about how they will think I’m stupid for even applying, not sure I even want that job anyway, it is quite likely that I will get what I expected and not be offered the job. I will have unconsciously attracted not getting the job, even though I consciously wanted it. With EFT we can dig around, find these limiting beliefs and clear them.
My top three tips for effective manifesting with EFT tapping:
1. Whatever your intentions for the year ahead, first identify them clearly. It’s important to be really specific. Also, try to make them realistic. It’s not a matter of dumbing down your dreams or settling for just good enough, but it’s more about imagining small achievable steps which will take you down the path to your goal. If you currently don’t exercise at all, it isn’t very helpful to make a goal to run a marathon by the end of the year. It is probably more realistic and doable to aim for a 10 minute walk every day. That way you will be able to form a habit that is achievable and will help you to realise a bigger goal in the years to come.
2. Notice your resistance. What is stopping you from achieving what you want? Do you believe something that is holding you back? How does that make you feel? All of these can be worked with really effectively with EFT. It may be a long and painstaking process, involving a lot of work with memories of past events, but many of my clients have thoroughly cleared their limiting beliefs with EFT. For example, many of us want to make more money but what if we have a belief that “it’s wrong to be rich while others suffer” or “rich people are arrogant”? Working with EFT to find the origin of these beliefs (often learned as children from our parents, peers or teachers) can change them and stop us from sabotaging ourselves.
3. Form an affirmation with the words ‘I choose’. When we say ‘I choose’ rather than ‘I am’, it gets around that little voice in our heads that says, ‘but no! I’m not!’, which can so easily derail us when using a conventional affirmation. For example, instead of saying, “I enjoy the foods that are best for my body,” simply say “I choose to enjoy the foods that are best for my body.” Try it and see how different it feels! Use your statement with tapping the EFT acupoints to really embed it deeply in your subconscious and also iron out any remaining negative self-talk.
Earlier this year I ran a workshop on Manifesting with EFT, and at the end we tapped as a group using the words that we each felt drawn to manifest. They included DECISIVE, BRAVE, and CONFIDENT. The very next day, I easily and spontaneously took decisive, brave and confident action about two matters that I had been putting off for many months. I am constantly delighted by the miracles which EFT enables on a daily basis, in my own life and in others’!
